A Perfectionist Starts to Heal

I can embrace all of my feelings--
even the unpleasant ones--
with respect.

I can allow my inconsistencies.

I don't have to be right.

I don't have to like everyone.

I don't have to get everything done.

I don't have to please anyone
(and that includes God).

Each mistake I make can teach me,
but really, it doesn't have to.

Stopping by My Mind on a Spring Evening

Whose thoughts are these?
I think I know.
He dwells within the crawlspace, though.
I often find him mewling near,
obsessing concepts, theories, fear,
postures old and long of tooth,
and seldom grounded in the truth.

No time have I for thoughts like these,
for I have fleeting days to seize
and no one else but self to please,
and no one else but self to please.

Helium

Now is the time of letting go.

Sadness, certainly,
but also dusky shades of something salvific.

I am a helium-filled balloon;
letting go,
I finally, finally
fly.
