I passed Jesus on the corner
with a sign held to his chest;
"Anything will help," it said,
and just below, "God bless."
So this is where he's ended up,
in this shabby part of town.
We've dressed him up in Goodwill clothes,
and here we've plopped him down.
Does he take the bus out to the 'burbs,
to our precious neighborhoods?
And if he does, is he welcomed by
our fences, fears and shoulds?
