Last night's catechumenate class*
focused on prayer.
I appreciated the wisdom shared by our leaders (Katie and Richard)
as well as other members of the group.
A sampling:
Prayer is becoming conscious
of what is already true.
Prayer is waking up
to how close God already is.
----
God is always fully present,
whether we recognize it or not,
whether we're praying or not.
----
Prayer that works for you
may not be prayer that works for someone else.
It's personal, so pray as you can,
not as you can't.
Prayer that is rich and right for one
may be damaging for another.
----
All of life is prayer,
because all of life is your response to God.
We communicate with God all the time,
aware or unaware.
----
And this from Katie,
which I find encouraging for all the times in meditation
when my mind jumps, strays, follows the mental squirrels:
God is in the mind that wanders.
----
Thanks to all!
*the catechumenate, for those from non-liturgical traditions,
is what others might call an inquirers class or newcomers class,
designed for those considering joining the church
