Sometimes
you simply need to be
your own support system
(pep squad,
encouragement,
nurturer,
cheering section,
back-up,
source of assurance and affirmation),
because nobody else
will do it for you.
How to accomplish this?
Face yourself in the mirror
(figuratively or literally)
and recall past successes,
embrace your best self,
remind yourself that you do what you do
not to impress others, gain their respect, or prove your worth,
but because you are who you are
and who you are
is of inestimable value
to God,
and God wants you out there,
being yourself for the world.
Then do for yourself a thing or two
to concretely demonstrate that worth:
make yourself a nice dinner,
spend time with a pet,
take a walk in nature,
engage in a hobby,
watch a favorite movie,
take a nap...
you know what work's best for you.
Then do it, friend,
because, you know, it's you,
and that's reason enough.
