And so,
heaven packages up
a chubby little boy named Dirk
and sends him to earth:
a gift to the world.
He is sent
with a simple task:
make it a better place;
bring the reign of God.
He keeps trying,
hoping to leave behind:
more kindness than cruelty,
more bridges than barriers,
more acceptance than anxiety,
more hope than hard feelings,
more dignity than damage,
more affection than affliction,
more compassion than conflict,
more inspiration than indifference,
more light than loneliness,
more insight than ignorance,
more surrender than self,
more clarity than confusion,
more Jesus than judgment.
He takes comfort in knowing
that in God's great economy of grace,
there are, finally,
no scales, no weighing in,
no merits, no winners,
no losers,
just another chubby little boy
held by love.
